Junior Summer Session 4 Recap
August 4th-August 15th, marked our fourth and final session of summer camp! The Marine Explorers ended the summer with some wild encounters with local marine life. Meanwhile, our Youth Sailors took advantage of the remaining summer weather and worked on improving their technique!

The WaterFront Center’s Junior Big Boat Team Celebrates Historic 2nd Place Finish at Around Long Island Regatta
The Waterfront Center’s Junior Big Boat team, with an average age of 19, made history as the first WFC junior team to compete in the Around Long Island Regatta (ALIR), securing an impressive 2nd place in their division and 7th overall! Despite battling a 50-knot squall, our young sailors showcased remarkable skill and resilience.

The Waterfront Center’s Junior Big Boat (JBB) team is making history as the only junior program competing in the 2025 Around Long Island Regatta (ALIR)! Launched on July 24 from New York Harbor, our team of talented young sailors—Olivia and Isabella Silvestrini (15), Dylan Longobardi (14), and Rowan Shenoy (17)—guided by coaches Cormac and Jon, is navigating the challenging 207-nautical-mile course. Long Island Press Article: WaterFront Center celebrates 25 years, serves 10K a year
“Our mission statement is to connect people to the water through education and recreation,” said George Ellis, the center’s executive director. Ellis has been involved with the organization for the past nine years and has been in his role for the past five.
He said the center offers “access to the water” in a different way than many people are used to, exploring the region’s native marine life and history.

A Memorable Trip to Mamaroneck: Partnering with the Marine Education Center

All Aboard! Marine Education Center Hosts “Ida May” June 20-21, 2025
On Friday, June 20, 2025, the “Ida May” will dock in Mamaroneck Harbor for two days of maritime adventure and education.
The Marine Education Center (MEC) at Harbor Island Park will host the Ida May – a faithful reproduction of a 1925 ship that harvested oysters in Long Island Sound for seventy-five years before it was donated to The WaterFront Center in Oyster Bay, New York in 2003 to serve as an educational vessel.

WFC Celebrates 25th Anniversary with Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

Horseshoe Crab Tagging - 2025 Season
The WaterFront Center is excited to be returning to the New York Horseshoe Crab Monitoring Network for the 2025 tagging season; this is our 13th year participating. Participants assist with collecting scientific data to assess the status of horseshoe crabs in New York State and will help determine the management and conservation of this important species throughout the region.

The WaterFront Center is now booking spring cruises on the historic Oyster Sloop CHRISTEEN and Oyster Dredge IDA MAY in Oyster Bay Harbor! As we celebrate 25 years of adventure, education, and community, join us to explore our waterways through sailing, kayaking, and more.

Environmental Poster Contest Hosted By The Town of Oyster Bay
To raise awareness on the impact of trees in our communities, Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Andrew Monteleone announced the return of the Town’s Environmental Poster Contest, open to all 4th grade students in the Town of Oyster Bay. This year’s poster contest, Our Town Our Environment, invites youngsters to create a poster showcasing the importance of trees in preserving our environment, with a theme of ‘Trees for Tomorrow.”
