❄️ Winter Break Marine Explorers

Dates: February 16–20
Time: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Grades: 1–3 and 4–6

Winter Break Program: Registration is open

This Winter Break, The WaterFront Center invites your child to participate in our fun and educational Winter Break Marine Explorer Program! Throughout February break, we offer an exciting week filled with engaging science activities designed to make learning enjoyable.

Each day focuses on a different marine science theme, with hands-on experiences that encourage curiosity, exploration, and discovery. Participants will learn both in the classroom and outdoors, exploring the winter shoreline and local marine environment.

Weekly Themes Include:

  • Whale Day – Learn about local whale species, behavior, history, and identification

  • Crab Day – Identify local crab species and explore the world of invertebrates

  • Bird & Waterfowl Day – Special visit from CI Bird Sanctuary, including a presentation, craft, and guided bird walk

  • Weather & Wind Day – Explore weathering, wind, and renewable energy through hands-on activities

  • World Penguin Day – Celebrate penguins and learn about global marine wildlife

Campers will also create winter field guides and identify animals commonly found around Oyster Bay during the colder months.

Outdoor activities will take place each day, weather permitting.

What to Bring

  • Hiking boots, sneakers, or rain boots

  • Reusable water bottle

  • Warm winter jacket, hat, and gloves

  • Snack

Spring Break Program: Registration opens Thursday, February 5, at noon

This Spring Break, The WaterFront Center invites your child to join our Spring Break Marine Explorer Program—a week packed with hands-on science, outdoor exploration, and discovery!

Each day features a unique theme that introduces participants to the marine ecosystems of Oyster Bay. Using both our indoor and outdoor classrooms, children will explore local habitats and learn about the wildlife that lives there.

Participants may visit:

  • Beekman Beach

  • Mill Creek Inlet

  • West Harbor

This program offers a perfect blend of education and adventure, fostering a deeper connection to the natural world while encouraging teamwork and curiosity.
