Before You Book
Sailboat Rentals, Community Open Sail, and Women on The Water are available once your sailing status is current with The WaterFront Center.
If you are new to renting from The WaterFront Center, or if you have not completed a Check Out Sail within the last two years, please book a Check Out Sail first.
Returning sailors who completed a Check Out Sail in within the last two years are eligible to take the Returning Sailor Exam instead of booking a new Check Out Sail.
If your sailing status is already current, continue to the password protected booking page to reserve sailboat rentals, Community Open Sail, Women on The Water, or season pass options.

Sailors preparing for Rentals, Community Open Sailing, and Women on The Water can use this guide to decide whether to book a Check Out Sail first or continue to the booking page.
Book a Check Out Sail
Choose this option if you are new to renting from The WaterFront Center or if you have not completed a Check Out Sail within the last two years.
- Required before independent sailboat rentals
- Includes a written test and on the water practical exam
- Helps confirm that sailors are ready to safely rent and participate

Returning Sailor Exam
Returning sailors who completed a Check Out Sail within the last two years are eligible to take the Returning Sailor Exam instead of booking a new Check Out Sail.
- Available Monday through Friday
- 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM
- Completed at The WaterFront Center
- Results may take up to 72 hours
- $10 per sailor

Sailboat Rentals
Reserve one of The WaterFront Center’s 23-foot Sonars and enjoy independent time on Oyster Bay Harbor.
- Rental approval must be complete before booking
- Great for independent sailing practice
- 2 person minimum and 4 person maximum
Community Open Sail
Community Open Sail is designed for adults who already have sailing experience and are ready to enjoy time on the water with other sailors.
- For adults 18+
- Reservations required
- No instructor during this program
- Participants sail together as a crew
Women on The Water
Women on The Water is a weekly group sailing opportunity for women who already have sailing experience and are ready to continue sailing in a welcoming, social setting.
- For women 18+
- Thursdays from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
- Reservations required
- No instructor during this program

Season Pass Options
Season passes are available for sailors who plan to participate regularly throughout the season. Select the pass that best matches how you would like to sail.
Rental requirement: You are required to pass the Check Out Sail / Returning Sailor Exam before booking.
Please note: ASA/U.S. Sailing Certifications DO NOT QUALIFY as, or bypass, a Check Out Sail.
Community Open Sail Season Pass
For sailors who want regular access to Community Open Sail throughout the season.
- Designed for regular Community Open Sail participation
- Reservations are still required for each sailing date
- No instructor during this program
- Participants sail together as a crew
Women on The Water Season Pass
For women sailors who want to participate in Women on The Water group sailing throughout the season.
- Women group sailing offered weekly
- Reservations are still required for each sailing date
- Welcoming social sailing environment
- No instructor during this program
Sailing Rental Season Pass
Sail up to 4 hours every day and rent from our fleet of Sonars.
- Sail up to 4 hours every day
- Rent from our fleet of Sonars
- Full season access for frequent sailors
Sailing Rental Monthly Pass
Sail up to 4 hours every day and rent from our fleet of Sonars for one full month.
- Sail up to 4 hours every day
- Rent from our fleet of Sonars
- Full month access for regular sailing
