Sailboat rentals
Let’s determine what you need before booking.

Returning Sailor Exam
You may be eligible for the $10 Returning Sailor Exam instead of a new Check Out Sail.
- Available Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM–5:00 PM
- Completed at WFC
- Allow up to 72 hours for results
Book a Check Out Sail
New or lapsed renters must complete the $50 WFC Check Out Sail before independent rentals or community sailing.
ASA and U.S. Sailing certifications do not replace this WFC evaluation.
Rental and community sailing prices
- Sonar rental: $150 + tax for 3 hours; additional hours $50
- Community Open Sail: $65 for 2 hours or $85 for 3
- Women on The Water: $65 for 2 hours
- Community season pass: $850
- Women on The Water pass: $550
- Rental season pass: $1,200
- Rental monthly pass: $400
Adult sailing pathway
Try Sailing → Learn to Sail → Check Out Sail → Rent or join social sailing
- Intro to Sailing: $150 per boat, up to 4 people; a two-hour introductory experience, not a lesson
- Group Instruction: $250 per person for 6 hours; includes a Check Out Sail
- Private Lesson: $275 for one person; $60 each additional attendee, up to 4
- Basic Keelboat: $740 for one attendee; $470 each additional attendee
- All Access Pass: $1,500
Youth programs and camps
WFC offers marine education, sailing, Marine Explorers, fishing, and Pond Yacht Woodworking for children and teens.
- Program requirements are based on age or incoming fall grade
- A Water Safety Check is part of most programs
- Required health forms and waivers must be approved before participation
- Need-based scholarships and payment plans may be available
Paddling on Oyster Bay
- Single kayak: $32 + tax for 1.5 hours; ages 9+
- Double kayak: $40 + tax for 1.5 hours; children as young as 5 may ride with an adult
- Paddleboard: $35 + tax for 1.5 hours; ages 9+
- Ages 9–15 must have an adult on the water with them
- Ages 16–17 may rent independently with a parent or guardian-signed waiver
- Life jackets are provided and must be worn
- Rentals do not include a lesson or guide
- Reservations are strongly recommended
Public sails and private charters
Sail aboard CHRISTEEN or cruise on IDA MAY.
- Public harbor experiences currently range from $40–$60 per person
- Children must be at least 3 years old
- Arrive at least 15 minutes before departure
- Private charters begin at $1,400
- CHRISTEEN accommodates up to 24 guests
- IDA MAY accommodates up to 44 guests
Before you arrive
- WFC is at 1 West End Avenue, Oyster Bay
- Arrive at least 15 minutes early unless your confirmation says otherwise
- Every attendee must sign the electronic waiver; a parent or guardian signs for minors
- Limited parking is available in front of the building; additional parking is across from WFC
- Review your confirmation email for program-specific instructions
Weather decisions
Many programs, sails, and rentals continue in light rain or drizzle when conditions are safe. Conditions on the harbor can differ from conditions on land.
Please do not assume an activity is canceled unless you receive official notice from WFC. The WaterFront Center makes all weather-related cancellation decisions.
Cancellation policies
Cancellation and rescheduling windows differ for youth programs, public sails, charters, lessons, community sailing, and rentals.
The terms shown during booking are the official policy for that reservation. Please review the detailed FAQ or contact WFC before canceling.
Accessibility and accommodations
- Please contact WFC in advance about mobility or accessibility needs
- The walk from the entrance to the dock is approximately 800 feet
- Guests should expect steps between the dock, launch, and vessel
- Vessels may sometimes be brought to the dock when arranged in advance
- CHRISTEEN and IDA MAY cannot accommodate wheelchairs
Scholarships and payment help
WFC offers a limited number of need-based scholarships. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis based on need and available funding.
Payment installments are also available for most full-day and multi-week programs.

WFC offers experiential education, field trips, corporate team building, community programs, and volunteer opportunities.
