C420 Frostbite Series

Frostbiting on Oyster Bay Harbor

Keep sailing through the colder months with The WaterFront Center's 2026–2027 Frostbiting Series.

Join fellow sailors for competitive winter racing on Oyster Bay Harbor. This year's series welcomes both C420 and Optimist sailors, offering opportunities to stay active, sharpen racing skills, and enjoy time on the water.

Structure & Schedule

Racing is scheduled for nine Saturdays between November 14 and January 9.

Weekly Racing

Racing is planned each scheduled Saturday, including holiday weekends, provided there are sufficient registrations and conditions are safe.

Racing may be canceled, postponed, or ended when weather, participation, or safety conditions do not permit racing to proceed.

Pre-race weather cancellations will be communicated through the Frostbiting WhatsApp chat and/or email.

Registration & Participation

Sailors may register for the full Frostbiting Series or participate on individual race days.

Sailors registering by the day, without registering for the full series, are not eligible for series scoring or trophies.

Registration, official notices, and weekly results are managed through ClubSpot.

Safety & Racing Rules

The series is governed by the 2025–2028 Racing Rules of Sailing and The WaterFront Center's official Sailing Instructions.

Safety Requirements

• All sailors must wear life preservers with an attached whistle while on the water.
• All boats must carry a bow line of suitable length for recovery and towing.
• Racing may be canceled when potentially unsafe conditions exist, including winds of 20 mph or greater and temperatures in the 20s.
• The Race Committee will monitor boat handling and may direct sailors to return to shore if they are operating unsafely.
• Sailors are responsible for significant damage to WaterFront Center boats and equipment.

Racing & Scoring

• C420s and Optimists will have separate starts.
• Courses will be windward-leeward.
• The High-Point Scoring System will be used for the series.
• There will be no throw-outs for the series.
• Sailors must participate in at least three scheduled race days to qualify for series trophies, subject to the attendance-credit provisions in the Sailing Instructions.
• First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded after the final race day.
