All Aboard! Marine Education Center Hosts “Ida May” June 20-21, 2025
Article published in the Mamaroneck Observer, June 11, 2025
On Friday, June 20, 2025, the “Ida May” will dock in Mamaroneck Harbor for two days of maritime adventure and education.
The Marine Education Center (MEC) at Harbor Island Park will host the Ida May – a faithful reproduction of a 1925 vessel that harvested oysters in Oyster Bay Harbor for seventy-five years before it was donated to The WaterFront Center in Oyster Bay, New York, in 2023 to serve as an educational vessel.
The WaterFront Center’s Education Director, Cameron Jenness, has collaborated with MEC Director Kyle Troy to plan events that will delight visitors of all ages as they participate in educational activities both in the Center and onboard the Ida May. Activities on June 20th have been reserved for school and other community groups.
Programs for the public will be available throughout the day on June 21st and require advance ticket purchase.
The Ida May’s visit to Mamaroneck will conclude with an adults-only evening cruise on Saturday, June 21st from 5:30-7 pm hosted by The Friends of the Marine Education Center. Cocktails and light refreshments will be served as guests learn more about their hosts’ efforts to protect Long Island Sound and to inspire a new generation of environmental advocates. All proceeds from this event will support the missions of the Marine Education Center and The WaterFront Center.
Tickets for all June 21 events - the family friendly programs during the day and the adult cruise in the evening - can be purchased via the link below.
