The WaterFront Center is supported by a dedicated community of volunteers who help care for our historic vessels and share Oyster Bay Harbor with students, passengers, and visitors. Their work reflects our mission to build a community of stewards who will help protect the harbor for future generations.

CHRISTEEN was first built in 1883, and it was through the work of volunteers that she was restored, modified, and continuously maintained for education programs and public tours. Their commitment to our flagship has earned them the name of The 1883 Society.

IDA MAY, a replica of one of the first engine powered oyster dredges, was also brought to life through the dedication of volunteers, professional shipwrights, and marine engineers. After 12 years of craftsmanship and more than 33,000 volunteer hours, IDA MAY now serves as a classroom on the water and carries forward the maritime heritage of Oyster Bay.
