Remembering Clint Smith, A Local Community Leader
With deep regret and sadness, we announce that Clinton S. "Clint" Smith passed on April 26th peacefully at his home. Clint was the motivating force behind the Ida May project and the Christeen Oyster Sloop Preservation Corporation.

Horseshoe Crab Tagging - 2021 Season
The WaterFront Center is excited to be returning (safely) to the New York Horseshoe Crab Monitoring Network for the 2021 tagging season, this is our 9th year participating. Participants assist with the collection of scientific data that is used to assess the status of horseshoe crabs in New York State and will help determine the management and conservation of this important species throughout the region. Due to COVID-19, the number of volunteers will be limited and all participants must pre-register by contacting our site coordinator and confirm prior to the scheduled survey date. Volunteers who do not schedule their session with our site coordinator will not be permitted to participate.

Dawn Riley: Sailing Through Barriers
Meet Dawn Riley, a world-class sailor and the Executive Director of Oakcliff Sailing, a non-profit organization that teaches sailors to race at a high level, while also preparing them for careers in the sailing industry. Dawn herself has participated in multiple Whitbread Round the World and America's Cup campaigns, even being a part of the first all-female crew in a Whitbread Race known as Maiden.

Learn How You Can Join The Community Oyster Garden Program
Dip your toes into The Oyster Bay/Cold Spring Harbor Community Oyster Garden Program at an upcoming Online Public Info Sessions on March 25th or April 5th at 7 pm. Learn about the training, equipment, and ongoing support necessary to successfully “garden” juvenile oysters in floats off your waterfront property (i.e., bulkhead or dock) or at a community oyster garden site, like the one planned for The WaterFront Center.

Maiden: Racing to Create Space for Women In Sailing
Follow along Tracey Edward's journey from backpacking around Europe at the age of 16 to building her own racing team, purchasing her own boat, and placing 2nd in one of the most prestigious races in the sailing world! These skilled female sailors would smash expectations and set world records during this nine-month-long race around the southern hemisphere!

Even though February and black history month is coming to an end, doesn’t mean that we can’t celebrate black achievements all year round. Here are four black scientists who not only made significant discoveries and contributed important work to their fields but also educated their own communities and created space so that more black people could be welcomed into the science community.
Environmental Poster Contest Hosted By The Town of Oyster Bay
The WaterFront Center and Friends of the Bay have partnered with The Town of Oyster Bay to host this year’s Environmental Poster Contest open to 4th-grade students presented by Council Woman Michele Johnson and Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joe Saladino. Design a poster around the theme "How Plastic Pollution Harms our Waterways" to help bring awareness of how items of plastic litter harm our waterway.

Ayme Sinclair: Fostering Change
Meet Ayme Sinclair, Ayme is currently vice president of The Woman’s Sailing Association, CEO of Women who sail, and Founder of Sail Noire. Ayme is someone who continues to challenge the sailing community by providing access to those who normally wouldn’t have the tools to learn how to sail.

For this week, our Sailing Instructor Spotlight falls on Cormac Murphy. Cormac has been passionate about sailing and racing his whole life. He grew up racing on his families’ J24 sailboat around Long Island. Some of his fondest memories of childhood are of skippering his families' boat.
