Overview
Stay sharp this winter with The WaterFront Center’s 420 Frostbite Series — weekly short-course racing in Oyster Bay using our Club 420s rigged with spinnakers (no trapeze). The series is open to experienced youth and adult sailors comfortable handling 420s in winter conditions. Registration includes boat use, race management, and a safety boat.
Structure & Schedule
Session Dates:
- Session 1: November 15, 2025 – January 11, 2026 (9 Saturdays)
- Session 2: January 17, 2026 – March 14, 2026 (9 Saturdays)
First warning at 11:00 AM; no races will be started after 2:00 PM.
Registration & Participation
- Minimum of 4 boats must be registered by Friday midnight; maximum of 10 boats each week (first-come, first-served).
- $600 per boat per series, or $1,100 for both sessions. Pay per day is available at $90; boats registered per day are not eligible for series scoring. $100 discount if you bring your own 420.
- Registration closes Fridays at 11:59 PM. Skippers will reserve a boat via Google Form.
- Racing will not be held in sustained winds above 20 knots or temperatures below 20°F (20/20 Rule).

Safety & Rules
- Dry suits and properly fitted U.S. Coast Guard–approved PFDs are required at all times — no exceptions.
- Total crew weight may not exceed 400 lbs.
- Sailors are monetarily responsible for significant damage to hulls, sails, or rigging.
- Scoring uses the Low Point System (RRS Appendix A) with one throw-out for every four completed race days.
- Awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd overall for each series.
- The Race Committee reserves discretion to postpone, abandon, or end racing at any time for safety reasons.
- Sailors are invited to enjoy a firepit by the WFC building following racing each Saturday. Sailors are also welcome to bring their own refreshments.
