2021 Marine Explorer Memories!

We’re looking forward to this upcoming summer now that the days are slowly thawing. Check out some of our best memories from the 2021 Marine Explorers season! Who do you recognize!?

At The Beach

Our Marine Explorers spent so much time at the beach! Adjacent to our faculty is Beekman Beach, which is part of the Oyster Bay Wildlife Refugee. Children learned about the myriad of ecosystems and marine life in our area through seining, sniggling, marine scavenger hunts, and other sandy activities!

On The Water

Children participated in activities on the water as well! Children went on kayaking expeditions and cruised aboard Oyster Sloop Christeen, our historic flagship! When kayaking, children learned teamwork while paddling in a double kayak with other peers, worked on their balance, and explored the far reaches of the salt marsh we call “Crab Island.” On Christeen, children learned the history of our harbor, and participated as crew while learning about plankton, dredging, and more!

In The Classroom

At The WaterFront Center, we have both outside and inside the classroom! Inside classroom time is a time to regroup, review what you’ve learned, create your craft, or tackle a steam kit with your group! Outside classroom time is for moving, running, and exploring new concepts we learned inside!
