Come sail aboard our fleet of rental sailboats and catamarans within the protected waters of Oyster Bay Harbor. Need to brush up on your skills? Take a private lesson with one of our certified instructors.

1) Is it your FIRST-TIME RENTING or are you a RETURNING RENTER?
First-time renting a sailboat at The WaterFront Center?
Want to rent a sailboat and already know how to sail? Take our First-Time Safety Certification Exam (Including a 10-question quiz and an on-the-water portion) to get certified to rent a Sonar, Hobie Getaway, or Hobie Wave!
*Please note that you must be individually certified for each type of boat you would like to rent.*

Have you rented at The WaterFront Center in the past 3 years, and want to continue to rent our boats? Get recertified to rent by taking our Returner’s Safety Recertification Test.
If it’s been more than 3 years (2022) you must do the first-time Safety Certification again

First Time Check Out Sail
BOOK YOUR APPOINTMENT and assess your skills!
To rent a sailboat, you must take our First-Time Safety Certification Exam to get on-water certified to rent a Sonar, Hobie Getaway, or Hobie Wave!
**ASA/U.S. Sailing Certifications DO NOT QUALIFY as, or bypass, a Safety Sail Certification. You are required to pass The WFC’s safety standards in order to rent our boats.**
This consists of a 10-question written quiz and a practical on-the-water portion in which you will exhibit your sailing abilities to one of our certified sailing instructors. You must demonstrate that you can rig the boat, leave and return to the dock or mooring, and sail the boat safely without the help of an instructor. When you pass both the quiz and the sail you are approved to rent our boats.
$50 +tax for a 1-hour session, includes written test and practical on-the-water exam.
**FOR RETURNING RENTERS ONLY: if you have passed a checkout sail or rented in the past 3 years, you only need to take the test and pass in order to rent! **
Take our Returner’s Safety Sail to get recertified to rent a Sonar, Hobie Getaway, or Hobie Wave! This consists of a 20-question written quiz for you to demonstrate your sailing ability. When you pass this quiz, your Safety Sail Certification will be renewed, and you will be able to rent at WFC for the current season.
