First Mates explore local marine wildlife with naturalists and sail Optis or Sonars under the guidance of instructors.

Naturalists lead a variety of activities promoting environmental stewardship, such as oceanography, fishing, kayaking and dredging for local benthic marine life aboard Christeen.

Advanced marine research activities, SUPs, kayaks, and adventure sailing in keelboats culminates with an overnight cruising expedition. Overnight expedition occurs during 2 week sessions only.

Description:

420 Prep introduces the basics of double-handed dinghy sailing. Sailors learn advanced skills including spinnaker handling, trapeze, and crew work. Continue refining the skills gained in this class by joining High School Sailing in the fall. Each sailor may enroll in multiple sessions until they are ready to join the WFC Race Team.
