The WaterFront Center Serves The Public
We serve recreationalists and students of all ages by encouraging fun, adventure, awareness and preservation of our marine environment.
Some interesting facts and stats about the WaterFront Center from 2010:
- 8,202 children and 1,516 adults participated in Marine Education Programs.
- 3,384 people sailed on the Christeen enjoying public harbor tours, educational cruises and private charters.
- 459 youths attended one, two and four-week summer programs learning how to sail, fish, kayak, seine, sniggle, and discover the wonders of the local marine environment.
- 248 adults took learn-to-sail programs including US Sailing certified Basic Keelboat and Basic Cruising courses and WFC (Tuesday Night) Racing.
- 180 Nassau Community College students in partnership with the WFC took our learn to sail class.
- WaterFront Center’s keel boats were rented 362 times not including 13 seasonal renters.
- Over 900 people paddled WFC kayaks in 2010.
- Over 50 volunteers helped prepare boats, crew on the Christeen, serve on the Board of Directors, organize mailings, raise funds, and many other valuable tasks.
- The WaterFront Center's total revenues for 2010 are projected at $930,075. The operating budget for 2011 is $942,280.
- 68% of the projected 2011 budget will come from program revenues.
- 32% of the 2011 projected revenues will come from fundraising and donations.
