The WaterFront Center Serves The Public
We serve recreationalists and students of all ages by encouraging fun, adventure, awareness and preservation of our marine environment.
Some interesting facts and stats about the WaterFront Center from 2009:
- 7,292 children and 3,265 adult students participated in WaterFront Center education programs.
- 2,925 passengers sailed on the Christeen enjoying public harbor tours, educational cruises and private charters.
- 302 juniors attended one, two and four-week summer programs learning how to sail, fish, kayak, swim, snorkel, and discover the wonders of the local marine environment.
- 185 adults took learn-to-sail programs including US Sailing certified Basic Keelboat and Basic Cruising courses and Tuesday Night Racing.
- WFC keel boats were rented 163 times for a morning, afternoon or evening. In addition, there were 18 seasonal sailboat shares.
- Over 900 people paddled WFC kayaks.
- Over 50 volunteers helped prepare boats, crew on the Christeen, serve on the Board of Directors, organize mailings, raise funds, and many other valuable tasks.
- The WaterFront Center's total revenues for 2009 are projected at $967,035. The operating budget for 2010 is $905,160.
- 45% of the projected budget will come from fundraising and donations.
- 55% of projected revenues will come from program fees.
- 100% of the land at the Western Waterfront where the WaterFront Center resides is owned by the State of New York Department of Environmental Conservation and the Town of Oyster Bay.
