The 2013/14 winter seemed to stretch on endlessly, with snowfall and below freezing temps stretching into the second half of April. The ice flows in West Harbor were like those that have not been seen in more than twenty years, according to local eyewitnesses, and we certainly hope it’s at least that long before we experience anything like that again!

Despite the harsh weather conditions we did not delay our opening weekend . More than thirty sailors rewarded our preparation efforts and  joined us for our first Saturday of the season on May 3. We ran the full gamut of programming from beginners to experienced racers. We had all of our boats, that we in the water, sailing nearly the entire day. I think that was a hint, and we heard you loud and clear. We got to work, splashing more boats in anticipation of the following weekend’s strong turn out! The conditions for opening weekend were great, temperatures reached the 70s with a solid breeze ranging from 8-12kts. People were all smiles as we welcomed them back for the 2014 season. Armed with website accounts and online registrations – we hope to get people out on the water faster than ever. We were especially excited to see such a strong turn-out for WFC Racing and Adult Sailing, two courses the best embody our adult sailing programs; great instruction with a community feel.  We hope this is a clue for a great sailing season ahead!

It was great to have  so many of you back out on the water! In a few more weeks kayak and paddleboard rentals, cruising rentals, and keelboat rentals are going to be in full swing. See you out on the water!
